With command central strategically placed in this more convenient location, you can navigate your music--and activate the VoiceOver feature--without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you're doing. iPod shuffle includes these easy-access controls, but you can also use headphones with similar controls from manufacturers like Scosche, Klipsch, V-MODA, and Belkin. VoiceOver tells you the name of each playlist, so it's easy to switch between them and find the one you want without looking. Let's Talk Color The anodized aluminum enclosure makes iPod shuffle sleek and durable. It's even more colorful in gleaming pink, blue, green, black, or silver. And making its debut: the special edition iPod shuffle in polished stainless steel (Talk about rock star treatment). Even the iPod shuffle clip rocks. Black Shuffle March 8, 2010 L. Berber (Orange County) Great for your work out routine, Its so light. Although I dont like how you cant skip songs, Unless I havnt figured out how to do that??
Do not buy this product March 6, 2010 Adam Thomson (Mexico City, Mexico) First off, I do not own one of these products. However, I have used one, and I have read many, many reviews of it. And my conclusion is this: do not buy it under any circumstances.
Why should you? Many reviewers have suggested that you can get around the horrid design fault Apple introduced into this generation of shuffle (placement of controls on the headphone wires rather than the unit itself) by buying a third-party adaptor so that you can ditch the included headphones, which suck and malfunction when they come into contact with sweat (or any liquid).
But there are two problems. The first is practical: the adaptors are generally of poor quality and have a tendency to fall apart, even with light use. The second problem is ethical: why should we have to buy additional equipment just because Apple screwed up? It is not our job to design ipods, but it is the job of Apple. So why should we have to seek additional hardware - spending our valuable time and money in the process - to compensate for Apple's lack of thought? Let's all ensure that this product FAILS so that the company will have to replace it with something that does its job and that satisfies customers.
Not in the way March 4, 2010 A. Woods The IPOD was hard for me to understand on how to download songs onto it. But once all that was done the use of it afterwards its assume. Its not bulky and does not get in the way during my fitness workouts, has great volume, and clear. I would say buy it, I rather purchase this small product then buying a IPOD that can play videos ect. Because I dont know about the rest of everyone else. But during the time I would use this, I would not be watching movies ect. Plus I have observed people with these larger IPODS they are constantly playing with it, moving it, ect to do what they want it to do. All I do with mine, is turn it on, clip it to my shirt and off I go; don't touch it again til I am done. Bigger & higher price isnt always better.
Very pleased March 3, 2010 Crystal Reed (Santa Monica, CA) I had an old Shuffle from about 4 or 5 years ago, so I was very pleasantly surprised to see just how small this one actually is. Plus, the controls are easier to use than I expected, too. As you can tell, I'm thoroughly satisfied with this purchase.
VERY high quality with JUNK headphones. March 3, 2010 Coug Moog (York, PA, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Apple needs to IMMEDIATELY stop shipping the crap headphones they've been making for this unit; they have killed its reputation. If they shipped it with their standard crap headphones and an Apple version of the Belkin inline controller, they'd have a winner on their hands.
I got it intending to throw the headphones immediately into the trash. I use an aftermarket inline volume control with a very inexpensive pair of JVC 'air cushion' earbuds.
Apple should study the JVC design. These headphones with this iPod are a podcaster's dream.
I love talk radio, and podcasting is the only way to listen. I listen while exercising and doing yard work/household chores.
This little wonder has no problems at all with sweat when using the aftermarket adapter, because now the volume and play controls are down next to the unit itself instead of hanging from your ear. Once the headset's deficiency is overcome, this minimalist setup is totally sweet.
So if you're looking for the perfect exercise iPod, this is it--but you MUST purchase one of the aftermarket inline play controls and plug your favorite headset into that. You will get better sound and no malfunctions.
And the sound is really good. The Shuffle has always been one of the better-sounding MP3 players out there. No change with this generation. On the rare occasion when I use this to play music, I'm struck by the great sound coming out of this little wonder. Remember the cassette Walkman players we used to think were the shizznits?
Adjusted for inflation, the street price of this little thing is about a quarter of the old cassette Sony Walkman (including the cost of the adapter), with many times the music capacity of a tape, sound that blows it away, and a size that is just astounding. I don't see how it can get any smaller except by doing away with the clip. I like the clip, but I wouldn't mind having a little tiny 'iPod pocket' in my jacket that is just big enough for the Shuffle without a clip.
Doesn't hurt that the Shuffle is also, hands down, the best-looking iPod ever made. I've owned them all, and currently use the iPhone 3g and the Classic (only the Classic can hold my whole music collection). Design-wise, next to the Shuffle both of those hot products are mutts. But you need a screen for video and large-library management.
My Shuffle came free when I subscribed to Dish Network. I must admit that my Classic never leaves the dock at the stereo system anymore. This little baby goes everywhere with me, and I don't even listen to podcasts on my iPhone anymore. The Shuffle saves my phone's battery for mobile web apps and communication. Plus it sounds better than the iPhone, and its battery life is astounding.
DO NOT HESITATE to buy this as long as you're planning to drop the headphones directly into the trash receptacle where they belong. If minimalist design and maximum portability are high priorities, you will love this thing.
