I would love to but I can not give a comment on this product that I ordered on 8/3/2010 because it is 9/6/2010 and I have not received it as of yet. I'm sure I would love it if I actually had it that's why I rated it 5 stars

5 out of 5 stars If you have the music, it's a must have   September 6, 2010

I had one of these a little over a year ago and switched it for a 64Gb iPod Touch... However, I have way too much music (over 100 Gb) and in addition, I purchased an iPhone, which made the use of the Touch's apps literally unnecessary.

In addition to the additional size, one other very big advantage is if you have a car stereo which is iPod compatible (I have an Alpine), I found that all will work 100% with the classic iPods, but not with the touch models. Cover art and responsiveness is much quicker on the classic iPod than with my previous touch, and since I basically listen to it when connected in my car, I didn't really worry about the extra size.

Overall, it's a classic, but definitely still top notch.

Like most people, this is the umpteenth iPod I've owned. But unlike all the previous models, I am not going to outgrow this one anytime soon. This iPod is big and heavy, and it's not a Touch model, so it's not going to be the best match for everyone. But for me, this is the one. Here's why:

Sound quality is important to me, so I rip my music directly from CDs, in uncompressed AIFF format. I have thousands of songs, and previously I had them divided into multiple playlists on multiple iPods. I was surprised that they all fit on this iPod (and with room to spare) despite the huge file sizes. I was able to get rid of all my other iPods.

I often listen using my AKG pro studio headphones, and I am not detecting any compression or distortion when playing back from my iPod. The quality when using those Apple ear buds is what one would expect - not so wonderful, but not surprising.

When considering whether or not to purchase this item, it was a matter of capacity versus function. There is a trade-off, so it's best to consider what your needs are. I mostly just use my iPod for music, usually in my shirt pocket while working. I already have access to a computer with internet access both at home and at work, and I just don't need all the features of an iPod Touch. I bought this for the capacity.

The one concern with this model is shock/vibration. Unlike smaller flash memory-based models, this iPod uses a hard drive. To be safe (and avoid scratches), I bought a small, padded digital camera bag to store this in while not in use. Those who are looking for an iPod to use while running or exercise should probably pass on this model and go with one of the flash memory models.

I have had this one for nearly a year now, and its operation has been flawless. Other reviews have mentioned problems with durability and even theft, but I don't share their concerns. If you take reasonable care of your things and use common sense to prevent theft, I don't think you're going to have any worries with this one.
